Component Location Overview - Infotainment System

1 - Bracket

2 - Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794-

  • Connector assignment. Refer to → Wiring diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component locations.
  • Removing and installing. Refer to → Chapter "Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794-, Removing and Installing".

3 - Bolt

  • 3 Nm
  • Quantity: 2

4 - Driver Volume Control -E67-

  • Removing and installing. Refer to → Chapter " Driver Volume Control - E67-, Removing and Installing".

5 - Bolt

  • 2 Nm
  • Quantity: 2

6 - Multimedia Button Module -E817-

  • Removing and installing. Refer to → Chapter "Multimedia Button Module -E817-, Removing and Installing".

7 - Multimedia System Control Head -E380-

  • For automatic transmission
  • Removing and installing. Refer to → Chapter "Multimedia System Control Head -E380-, Removing and Installing, Automatic Transmission".

8 - Bolt

  • 2 Nm
  • Quantity: 4

9 - Multimedia System Control Head -E380-

  • For manual transmission
  • Removing and installing. Refer to → Chapter "Multimedia System Control Head -E380-, Removing and Installing, Manual Transmission".

10 - Bolt

  • 2 Nm
  • Quantity: 4

11 - Bolt

  • 3 Nm
  • Quantity: 3

12 - Front Information Display Control Head -J685-

  • Connector assignment. Refer to → Wiring diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component locations.
  • Removing and installing. Refer to → Chapter "Infotainment System Display, Removing and Installing".

Infotainment System Display, Removing and Installing

The Front Information Display Control Head -J685- (Display Infotainment System) is located in the center of the instrument panel.

Removing

- Turn off the ignition and all electrical equipment and remove the ignition key.

- Remove the front passenger side instrument panel vent. Refer to → Body Interior; Rep. Gr.70; Instrument Panel; Instrument Panel Vent, Removing and Installing.

With removal from the front passenger side instrument panel vent the bolts are accessible.

- Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the Front Information Display Control Head -J685--1- from the instrument panel.

- Release and disconnect the connectors.

Installing

- Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

  • Refer to → Chapter "Component Location Overview - Infotainment System"

Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794-, Removing and Installing

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • Radio Removal Tool -T10057-
  • Fiber-Optic Repair Set - Connector Protective Caps -VAS6223/9-.

  Note

If replacing the control module, select the "Replace control module" function for the corresponding control module on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

The Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- is located in the glove compartment. The cover frame of the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- is secured with the glove compartment. The glove compartment must be removed first.

Removing

- Remove any CD/DVDs and SD/SIM cards from the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794-.

- Turn off the ignition and all electrical equipment and remove the ignition key.

- Remove the glove compartment. Refer to → Body Interior; Rep. Gr.68; Storage Compartment/Covers; Glove Compartment, Removing and Installing.

The wires to the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- are very short. For this reason the bracket must be removed first. With the removal of the glove compartment two bolts for the bracket are loosened.

- Remove the bolts -arrows- and fold the bracket -1- downward.

- Release and disconnect the connectors from the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794--2-.

- Insert the Fiber-Optic Repair Set - Connector Protective Caps -VAS6223/9--1- onto the MOST Bus connector -2-.

- Insert the two clips from the Radio Removal Tool -T10057- into the release slots on the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- until they engage. The points on the gripping eyelets face outward.

- Remove the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- from the bracket at the Radio Removal Tool -T10057- grip eyes.

- Press the release tabs on the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- and remove the Radio Removal Tool -T10057-.

Installing

- Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Connect all the connectors.

- Insert the Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- into the bracket until it engages.

Tightening Specifications

  • Refer to → Chapter "Component Location Overview - Infotainment System"
