Cover and Cushion, Removing and Installing, Bench Seat

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • Pry Lever -80-200-

  Caution

This procedure contains mandatory replaceable parts. Refer to component overview and parts catalog prior to starting procedure.

Mandatory Replacement Parts

  • Upholstery Clip - Cover to Cushion

Removing

- Remove the bench seat. Refer to → Chapter "Bench Seat/Single Seat, Removing and Installing".

- Remove the clips -1- using the -80-200-.

- Pry the cover clamping strip -3- out from the molded part using a screwdriver along the seat frame.

- Disengage the cover molding -2- from the seat frame at the rear.

- Disengage the molding -1- from the seat frame.

- Pry the clamping strip -4- out of the molded part using a screwdriver.

- Remove the clips -2- using the -80-200-.

- Open the Velcro fasteners -3-.

- Remove the cover and cushion from the seat frame.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal and note the following:

- Engage the rear molding into the seat frame first, and then pull the cover tight.

- Flip the protective strip -1- over 180º toward the inside in the direction of -arrow A-.

- Engage the protective strip in the groove on the molded part in the direction of -arrow B-.

Installation instructions: For example tightening specifications, replacing components. Refer to → Chapter "Overview - Cover and Cushion, Sport Bench Seat".

  Caution

This procedure contains mandatory replaceable parts. Refer to component overview and parts catalog prior to starting procedure.

Mandatory Replacement Parts

  • Upholstery Clip - Cover to Cushion

Removing

- Remove the rear seat backrest. Refer to → Chapter "Rear Seat Backrest, Removing and Installing, Fixed Rear Seat Backrest".

- Detach the upper molding -1- from the backrest frame.

- Unclip the side retaining strips -2, 3 and 4- from the backrest frame.

- Pry the retaining strips -5- out from the bottom of the backrest frame.

- Remove the headrest guides. Refer to → Chapter "Headrest Guide, Removing and Installing, Fixed Rear Seat Backrest".

- Remove the cover and cushion from the backrest frame.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal.

Installation instructions: For example tightening specifications, replacing components. Refer to → Chapter "Overview - Cover and Cushion, Fixed Rear Seat Backrest".

  Note

The procedure for the left folding backrest is described.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • Wedge Set -T10383-
  • Wedge Set - Wedge 1 -T10383/1-

Mandatory Replacement Parts

  • Upholstery Clip - Cover to Cushion

Removing

- Remove the rear seat backrest. Refer to → Chapter "Rear Seat Backrest, Removing and Installing, Outer Folding Backrest".

- Remove the rear headrest. Refer to → Chapter "Headrest, Removing and Installing".

- Remove the locking mechanism trim. Refer to → Chapter "Locking Mechanism Trim, Removing and Installing".

- Unclip the outer bearing sleeve -1- at the rear seat backrest with the -T10383/1- in the direction of -arrow-.

- Starting at the locking mechanism, pry off the clamping strip -2- for the backrest cover using a screwdriver all around the backrest frame -3- in the direction of -arrow-.

- Remove the rear headrest guides. Refer to → Chapter "Headrest Guide, Removing and Installing, Outer Folding Backrest".

- Remove the backrest cover -1- and backrest cushion from the backrest frame.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal and note the following:

- Flip the protective strip -1- over 180º toward the inside in the direction of -arrow A-.

- Engage the protective strip in the groove on the backrest frame in the direction of -arrow B-.

Cover and Cushion, Separating, Bench Seat

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • Upholstery Clip Pliers -VAG1634-

Removing

- Remove the cover and cushion. Refer to → Chapter "Cover and Cushion, Removing and Installing, Bench Seat".

- Pull the cover -1- as far off of the cushion -2- as possible and cut the upholstery clips -3- using pliers.

- Remove the cover from the cushion.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal and note the following:

- Equipment versions with seat heating: Apply a new seat heating element when replacing the cushion. Refer to → Chapter "Seat Heating Element, Removing and Installing".

Installation instructions: For example tightening specifications, replacing components. Refer to → Chapter "Overview - Cover and Cushion, Sport Bench Seat".

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • Upholstery Clip Pliers -VAG1634-

Removing

- Pull the cover -1- as far off of the cushion -3- as possible and cut the upholstery clips -2- using pliers.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal and note the following:

- Versions with seat heating: Apply a new backrest heating element when replacing the cushion. Refer to → Chapter "Backrest Heating Element, Removing and Installing".

Installation instructions: For example tightening specifications, replacing components. Refer to → Chapter "Overview - Cover and Cushion, Fixed Rear Seat Backrest".

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • Upholstery Clip Pliers -VAG1634-

Removing

- Remove the rear seat backrest. Refer to → Chapter "Rear Seat Backrest, Removing and Installing, Outer Folding Backrest".

- Remove the backrest cover and cushion. Refer to → Chapter "Cover and Cushion, Removing and Installing, Folding Backrest".

- Pull off cover -3- from the cushion -2- as far as possible and cut upholstery clips -1- using pliers.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal and note the following:

- Versions with seat heating: Apply a new backrest heating element when replacing the cushion. Refer to → Chapter "Backrest Heating Element, Removing and Installing".

Installation instructions: For example tightening specifications, replacing components. Refer to → Chapter "Overview - Cover and Cushion, Folding Backrest".
