Audi A4: Front Bumper Cover, Removing and Installing

Audi A4 (B9) 2016-2024 Service Manual / Body / Body Exterior / Bumpers / Front Bumper Cover, Removing and Installing

  • To complete the procedure, a second technician is required to be at the following position.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  • Pliers -T40172C-
  • Adapter -T40172/1-

Removing

- Push in the front wheels and loosen the wheel housing liner near the front bumper cover. Refer to → Chapter "Front Wheel Housing Liner, Removing and Installing".

- Use the -T40172C- with the -T40172/1- to remove the expanding rivet -arrow-.

- Remove the bolt -1-.

- Remove the lock carrier cover. Refer to → Chapter "Lock Carrier Cover, Removing and Installing".

- If equipped, free up the antenna wires -1- and disconnect the connector -2-.

- Remove the bolts -arrows-.

- Remove the bolts -1 and 2-.

- Disengage the side section from the front side panel in the direction of -arrow A - and remove the bumper cover -3- slightly with the help of a second technician in the direction of -arrows B-.

- If equipped, disconnect the central connector -2-.

- Disconnect the connector -1-, if equipped.

- Remove the bumper cover.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal and note the following:

- Adjust the bumper cover. Refer to → Chapter "Bumper Cover, Adjusting".

Tightening Specifications

  • Refer to → Chapter "Overview - Bumper Cover"

Front Bumper Cover, Adjusting

- Loosen bolts -1 and 2-.

- Adjust the front bumper cover lengthwise according to the markings -arrow-.

- Tighten the bolts.

- Check the gap dimension for evenness, and repeat the adjustment if necessary.

Tightening Specifications

  • Refer to → Chapter "Overview - Radiator Grille"

Front Bumper Cover Mount, Removing and Installing

Removing

- Remove the front bumper cover. Refer to → Chapter "Bumper Cover, Removing and Installing".

- Remove the nuts -3-.

- Remove the bumper cover mount -1- downward. This will release the retainers -2-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal.

Tightening Specifications

  • Refer to → Chapter "Overview - Bumper Cover"
