Traffic jam assist supports the driver when driving in traffic jams or in heavy traffic.
In a speed range under 40 mph (65 km/h), the system can help to keep the vehicle within a lane calculated by the system. Within the limits of the system, the system controls the steering automatically when adaptive cruise control is switched on. Since traffic jam assist is only an assist system, the driver must always keep his or her hands on the steering wheel and be ready to steer. The driver can override the control at any time by actively steering.
The system is designed for driving on expressways and highways.
